Lake Medical Shuts Down

About 85 employees learned Wednesday that Lake Medical Group would close operations immediately.

The company manufactured medical instruments and operated out of a facility on 2094 N. Boeing Drive in Warsaw.

Repeated calls to the company went unanswered and representatives could not be reached for comment.

Lake Medical Group is one of several support companies that work with major orthopedic manufacturers in Warsaw.

According to one employee, investors from the company arrived at the plant with representatives of Lake City Bank and announced the closing.

Employees were offered no assistance.

"No warning. Nothing. No consideration. No help," said the worker, who declined to give his name. "I think it's pretty crappy."

Lake Medical Group opened about five years ago with high hopes, said a former investor. Bob Kesler, who said he pulled out interest in the company about four months ago, declined to comment on details that led to the closure.

"The place had a great opportunity," Kesler said, "with a considerable supply of money."

An employee who declined to be named said the company employed about 85 people.

According to one employee, the company worked with DePuy, one of the three major manufacturers in Warsaw. One of Lake Medical's competitors, Lake City Medical Products, remains open.

A Lake City Medical Products spokesman said similarities in the names caused confusion in the past, but stressed that Lake City Medical Products' status "is as strong as ever."
