Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department officers and Lake Maxinkuckee marine patrol members spent part of their day on the lake May 27.
Officers took part in training provided by Indiana Conservation Officers at their district field office at Lake Wawasee. Marine patrol officers were instructed about Eco-Zones, boating rules and regulations, and accident reporting. After the classroom lecture, all officers were given the opportunity to operate patrol boats through an emergency vehicle obstacle course set up on Lake Wawasee.
Both marine patrol units receive grants from the Department of Natural Resources using funds distributed from Lake and River Enhancement fees. This fee is charged to boat owners as part of their annual motorboat registration costs.
