Lake District Committee Meeting Wednesday

Posted

In September, the Kosciusko County Area Plan Commission was approached with a proposal to establish a residential district around lakes 10 acres in size or larger.

The Lake Tippecanoe Property Owners organization is sponsoring the new zone, along with 12 other lake-focused associations, which limits development within half a mile of the lake shore to residential property.

There are 60 county lakes 10 acres in size or larger.

Any commercial development would be treated as an exception in the district and come before county boards for review. Current businesses would be allowed to remain as they are. Any expansion also would come under plan commission or board of zoning appeal review.

The plan commission established a committee to study the proposal and members will meet Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. to continue information gathering. The meeting is in the Munson Building, 216 N. Lake St., Warsaw. The meeting is open to the public.

The property owners associations view the lakes as environmentally sensitive areas. They seek to protect them against reduced water quality and the further destruction of native plants and animals.

Results from the committee meetings will be presented to the plan commission.
