TOMAHAWK, Wis. – The Chetek Hydroflites, of Chetek, Wis., won the team title at the 13th Indmar Marine Engines Division 2 Show Ski National Championships Aug. 2-4 in Tomahawk, Wis.
The Lake City Skiers, based in Warsaw on Hidden Lake, did fairly well at the tournament, according to Tracy Patrick. The team’s grand total score put them at sixth place.
Hosted by the Kwahamot Water Ski Club, of Tomahawk, Wis., the tournament featured 14 teams competing for the Division 2 show ski national title.
In competitive show skiing, each club has one hour to present a theatrical performance on water skis. Judges score the acts by awarding points based on originality, presentation and execution. Elaborate costumes and staging intermix with music and fast action on the water as an announcer leads the audience through the show.
According to the National Show Ski Association website, the Lake City Skiers placed sixth in dock and equipment personnel; fourth in pick-up boat crews; eighth in tow boat driving; fourth in showmanship; sixth in sound crew; fifth in overall show; sixth in grand total; 13th in high individual club act; 10th in ballet; seventh in swivel; fourth in jump; 12th in pyramid; and 11th in barefoot.
LCS will host their last three shows of the season Aug. 18, 25 and Sept. 1, all starting at 6 p.m.
They are hosting a combined show with the ski team from Chippewa Sept. 8, with details to be released later.
Two learn-to-ski clinics, open to the public, are scheduled for 5 to 7 p.m. Aug. 20 and 2 to 4 p.m. Aug. 25.
