Lahman, Gnagy Tops At ManchesterNORTH MANCHESTER - Kyle Lahman and Tara Gnagy have been named valedictorian and salutatorian respectively for the Class of 2010 at Manchester Junior-Senior High School.

Lahman has a perfect 11.0 grade point average and Gnagy has a 10.67 grade point average after 11 trimesters.

Lahman has been ranked first in his class all four years with Academic Excellence and Highest Honor Roll honors. He has been named a National Merit Commended Student and was the top school scorer in the American Mathematics Competition for three years.

Athletically, Lahman has been a Scholar Athlete for 12 sports seasons. He has a career tennis record of 65-9 earning Honorable Mention All-State Singles, Northeast Indiana Senior All-Star, Academic All-State, TRC Academic All Conference, Team MVP and captain honors. He also competed in basketball and golf all four years earning mental attitude and captain honors. In his junior basketball season, he was awarded the Bill Rogge Sportsmanship Award for the Wabash County Tournament.

In other extracurricular activities, Lahman participated in Science Olympiad, Academic Super Bowl, Student Council, National Honor Society, marching band and Spanish Club. He has also been a guidance aide, a math peer tutor and on the Church of the Brethren theatre tech crew.

After high school, Lahman plans to attend Northwestern University to major in applied mathematics and engineering sciences, which involves using math to solve real world problems. His parents are David and Mary Lahman of North Manchester.

Gnagy has earned academic honors in Academic Excellence, honor roll and National Honor Society. She has been named a Scholar Athlete in volleyball, basketball and tennis as well as TRC Academic All-Conference in tennis and volleyball and Academic All-State Honorable Mention in volleyball.

Gnagy has been president of Art Club, a state medalist in Science Olympiad, in musical theatre, choir, Academic Super Bowl, a math tutor and on the yearbook staff.

Athletically, Gnagy has played basketball for two years and volleyball and tennis for four years. She was the volleyball varsity team captain this year.

In community activities, Gnagy has volunteered at the Firehouse rebuilding, Operation Elf, Soup Kitchen, Children's church, Angel Food Ministry and read to Manchester Elementary School students. She has also taught tennis lessons to beginning students and danced with the Terri Eckert School of Dance.

She is the daughter of Jon and Sue Gnagy of North Manchester.

After high school, she plans to attend Taylor University to major in professional writing.
