SOUTH WHITLEY – Brianna Cumberland scored 17 points Wednesday, leading Whitko High School’s varsity girls basketball team to a 45-34 victory over Fort Wayne Northrop. The first, third and fourth quarters were tightly-contested, but the Lady Wildcats outscored the Lady Bruins 14-4 in the second stanza, providing the bulk of the scoring differential. Hanna Yohe added 13 points for Whitko, with Aly Reff and Maddie Gawthrop contributing six points each and Emily Day scoring three for the Lady Wildcats. Savannah Jones paced Northrop with 10 points and Carliesha Ridley added seven forthe Lady Bruins. Now 3-3, Whitko returns to action at 7:45 p.m. Saturday when North Miami visits South Whitley in Three Rivers Conference opener for both teams.
