COLUMBIA CITY – Led by senior Kylee Rostochak, Wawasee High School’s varsity girls basketball team snapped a four-game losing streak Thursday evening while halting Columbia City’s four-game win streak. Rostochak scored a game-high 17 points for the visiting Lady Warriors, who beat the Lady Eagles 48-33. Wawasee improved to 5-11, while Columbia City fell to 7-12. The Lady Warriors led 9-6 after one quarter of play, 19-9 at halftime and 30-19 at the end of the third quarter. Aubrey Schmeltz scored eight points for the winners, while Kabria Rostochak and Hannah Haines scored seven points each, and Hannah-Marie Lamle chipped in with six. Darian Farber led Columbia City with 14 points, while Regan Decker and Elise Cormany scored six points each. The Lady Warriors are in action again Saturday at Elkhart Memorial. Wawasee Gymnasts Tumble To Carroll SYRACUSE – Reagan Atwood was first in the all-around for Wawasee, but the Lady Warriors fell in the team competition to Carroll 99.55-96.63 Thursday afternoon. Atwood was first in the floor exercise with a 9.15, and on the vault with an 8.65. Ashleigh Frecker and Alyssa Minix were second on the vault, repectively. The Lady Warriors head to the Plymouth Invitational this morning.
Memorial Trips Warriors SYRACUSE – Wawasee’s wrestling team fell to Northern Lakes Conference perrineal power Elkhart Memorial 51-21 Thursday night in the Hardwood Tepee. Ricky Nelson pinned Benjamin Zagal of Elkhart Memorial at 285 pounds, and Alejandro Castro was declared the winner at 182 due to disqualification. Other winners for Wawasee were Tristan Ponsler (132) and Marcus Mejia via forfeit. Wawasee finished the NLC season at 0-7, and will wrestle in the conference meet Jan. 23.
