Thursday in Rochester The Tippecanoe Valley girls golf team got a split in its three-way match with Maconaquah and North Miami Thursday evening at the Mill Creek Golf Course in Rochester. Maconaquah won the match with a 197 while Valley and North Miami came in with 213 and 227, respectively. Maconaquah’s Brandi Jones was the medalist with a 44 while Valley was led by Victoria Biddle’s 47. All three teams will play in the Three Rivers Conference tournament at Norwood Golf Club in Huntington on Saturday. Thursday in Syracuse The Whitko girls golf team was 50 shots better than its Tuesday score, but the Lady Wildcats still fell to Northridge and host West Noble at South Shore Golf Course in Syracuse. West Noble got two wins with a score of 215. Northridge had 220 and Whitko 238. Aurelia Slusher again led the ‘Cats with a 53, while Claire Reiff and Holly Hathaway both shot 58. Makayla Compton rounded out the scoring with a 69. Whitko will play in the Three Rivers Conference tournament in Huntington on Saturday.
Boys Tennis Thursday in Akron Nick Caudill was a winner at No. 3 singles for Tippecanoe Valley, and the No. 2 doubles team of Eric Wright and Kane Steller won in straight sets for the Vikings in their 3-2 loss to Lewis-Cass. Volleyball Thursday in Syracuse Goshen beat Wawasee in three sets 26-24, 25-15, 25-19 at the Hardwood Tepee. Becca Anderson had eight kills for the Lady Warriors, and Hannah-Marie Lamle added five more. Seaquinn Bright had nine blocks, and Madie Wilson had seven more. The JV won its match with Goshen 21-25, 25-24, 15-14. Wawasee, now 1-11 and 0-2 in the Northern Lakes Conference, will host Westview on Monday.
Thursday in North Manchester Whitko avenged a five-set, non-conference loss from earlier this season, winning 25-23, 25-21, 25-13 at Manchester. Kaitlyn Reed had 20 kills, and two aces for the Lady Wildcats. Brianna Tackett added three blocks and four kills, and Emily Day recorded eight kills for Whitko. For Manchester, Cierra Carter had 10 digs, and Corrie Osborne recorded 10 assists. Whitko travels to Rochester for a match Monday, and Manchester will host Fort Wayne Canterbury in a non-conference match Tuesday.
Girls Soccer Thursday in Warsaw Warsaw remained unbeaten with a 2-1 Northern Lakes Conference win over visiting Concord. The Lady Tigers scored in the sixth minute, when Anna Grill headed the ball into the goal on a corner kick by Alex Koontz. Elizabeth Van Wormer scored in the 27th minute on an assist by Breck Jackson. Chloe Snow recorded seven saves in goal for Warsaw. The junior varsity team scored in the first and last minute of the game, earning a 2-1 victory over Concord. Kennedy Patton scored in the first minute of play, unassisted. Patton got the assist in the final minute, feeding Janae Jimenez for the game-winning goal. The Lady Tigers will host Northrop Monday afternoon. Boys Soccer Thursday in Nappanee NorthWood scored in the early minutes of the game, on an indirect free kick in the box, and made it stand to beat Wawasee 1-0 in Northern Lakes Conference play. “The boys fought hard, and we’re keeping our heads up and thirsty for a win in conference play,” said Wawasee head coach Jordan Sharp via fax. The Warriors (1-6-1 overall, 0-2 NLC) will go for their first conference victory Saturday morning when they host Elkhart Memorial.
