SYRACUSE — Opening its season at home against No. 17 Westview and West Noble, the Wawasee girls track and field team fell to both. Westview finished the three-way meet with 63.5 points, followed by West Noble’s 54 and Wawasee’s 42.5. In the meet, Wawasee did get first-place finishes from its 3200 relay (Hannah Wilczynski, Kaely Bame, Courtney Linnemeier, Jen Slabaugh), Wilczynski (800), Jordan Edington (shot put) and Sarah Rozow (pole vault), as well as Ruby Minnick (high jump), who tied West Noble’s Haley Richardson. Opening its season Thursday at Northfield High School, the Lakeland Christian Academy girls track and field team had the low score out of four teams. The Churubusco Lady Eagles came out on top at the meet with 96.5 points, followed by Wabash’s 54, Northfield’s 51.5 and LCA’s 34. LCA did receive first-place finishes from Jo Boren in the long jump and Hailey Nieveen in the 100 hurdles. The Lady Cougars return to competition April 12 at Caston. In a Three Rivers Conference meet at Southwood Thursday, the Manchester boys track and field team drew a tie. Tying Southwood 61-61, Manchester received first-place finishes from its 400 relay (Preston Penrod, Kegan McNeeley, Tom Naragon, Jacob Casper), McNeeley (100, 200), Brodi Carter (110 hurdles), Matthew Fahs-Brown (320) and the 1600 relay (Casper, Naragon, Micah McDaniel, McNeeley).
