NORTH MANCHESTER – Kennedy Fierstos scored 17 points, but the Manchester girls basketball team lost 61-46 Saturday to Northfield in the Wabash County Tournament championship game.
“Congratulations to Northfield on winning back-to-back county championships,” said Manchester coach Jake Everett. “We showed a lot of fight and grit throughout the game until the final buzzer. I’m proud of our team and how we are continuing to get better each and every day.”
Manchester trailed 18-9 after the first quarter, but was down just 29-25 at halftime.
Northfield extended its lead to eight by the end of the third quarter, and outscored the Lady Squires 18-11 in the fourth for the double-digit victory.
Eva Bazzoni scored 12 points for Manchester (9-6), which will host North Miami Saturday in a Three Rivers Conference matchup.
Manchester Wins OT Thriller Over Northfield
WABASH – Kameron Lester pulled off a double-double to lead the Manchester boys basketball team to a 66-56 overtime victory Saturday over Northfield in the Wabash County Tournament consolation game.
Lester scored 19 points while pulling down 12 rebounds, dishing four assists and recording four steals.
The game was tied at 54 at the end of regulation before the Squires outscored Northfield 12-2 in the extra period.
“I really liked the way we finished the game, said Manchester coach Mark Underwood.
Manchester (4-5) will play Friday at North Miami.
Squires Squash Competition At Twin Lakes Duals
MONTICELLO – The Manchester wrestling team went 5-0 to win Saturday’s Twin Lakes Duals.
The Squires went 70-9 over Faith Christian, 69-9 over Fountain Central, 70-12 over Twin Lakes, 55-15 over North White and 84-0 over South Bend Clay.
Manchester’s Ethan McWilliams (106 pounds), Elijah Burlingame (126), Dylan Stroud (132), Delton Moore (170), Ashton Moore (195), Trevor Dill (220), Bryce Kamphues (285) all went 5-0.
Haley Clifford (113), Brady Wiley (120), Kevin Morales (145), Andrew Cagle (160), and Trescott Duffy (182) all went 4-1 for the Squires.
Jacob Caudill went 4-0 and Peyton Addair went 1-0 for Manchester’s JV team.
Manchester will compete at Saturday’s East Noble Invitational.
Lady Warriors Take Third At Blazer Invite
ELKHART – Jada Parzygnot tied for second all-around to lead the Wawasee gymnastics team to a third-place finish at Saturday’s Blazer Invite at Elkhart Central.
The Lady Warriors posted a total score of 96.5, while Elkhart Central placed first (103.86), and Angola was second (102.1).
Parzygnot had an all around score of 35.1. She was first (9.3) on floor, and she and teammate Aundreya Wegener tied for third on beam with scores of 8.8.
Parzygnot was fifth on bars (8.2) and seventh on vault (8.8), while Wegener tied for second on floor (9.25) and placed ninth on bars (7.55).
Kenady Meerzo finished ninth on floor (8.65) for the Lady?Warriors.
Warsaw JV Routs Huntington North
Adin Um scored 11 points to lead the Warsaw JV girls basketball team to 38-19 home victory Saturday over Huntington North.
Warsaw limited Huntington North to single-digit scoring in all four quarters, including just two points in the second.
Bailie Stephens scored nine points for the Lady Tigers, while Mackenzie Sokol and Audrey Grimm had six points each.
