Lady Trojans Win Season Opener Going Away

UNION MILLS - The Triton Trojan girls' basketball team opened the 1996-1997 season by hammering South Central 62-23 Tuesday.

Triton, with the help of a full-court press and fast-break offense, jumped ahead 27-9 after one quarter.

Five girls scored eight or more points for the Trojans, who were led by Chris Scott with 16. Audra Meinert added 10 points and six rebounds. Jessica Kintzel had 10 ponts and five steals. Chris Wanemacher and Amilia Devros scored eight each.

Megan Sarber led Triton with five assists, and Wanda Miller led with six steals.

Triton won the junior varsity game 48-10. Gwen Roberts paced Triton with 16 points, and Missy Nifong added 15.

Both Triton teams are 1-0.

Triton hosts Culver at 6:30 p.m. Friday.

• Volleyball

At Kokomo, Lighthouse Christian Academy began its volleyball season last weekend by winning a tournament hosted by Lighthouse Christian School.

Anna Snodderly helped lead Lighthouse Christian Academy to a 15-2, 15-13 win over Cornerstone Christian (Noblesville) in the first match. Lighthouse then beat Mt. Calvary (Indianapolis) 11-5, 13-5; beat New Life (Rochester) 15-0, 8-5; beat Lighthouse (Kokomo) 15-12, 13-9; and beat Emanual Christian (Wabash) 15-4, 10-4.

The Crusaders are 5-0.
