Lady Trojans Lead Roundup With Win In Bi-County Opener

LAKEVILLE – Kylie Mason scored 17 points, and Jaela Meister added 15 more in Triton’s 49-34 win over host LaVille in the opening round of the Bi-County Tournament Tuesday night. The Lady Trojans led 21-9 after the first quarter, expanded the lead to 17 points by halftime and were never really threatened by the Lady Lancers after that. LaVille was led by Aryn Eash and McKenzie Leed with a dozen points each. Becca Kennedy scored seven points for the Lady Trojans, with Nichole Sechrist adding six off the bench and Hannah Jennings hitting a pair of field goals for four points. Triton, 12-6, advances to the semifinals of the tournament and will take on fellow Northern State Conference member Culver Community at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at LaVille. The game will be a rematch of a conference game played Friday night in Bourbon, where the Lady Cavaliers won 40-38 in double overtime. Tuesday in Wabash Meredith Brouyette hit a trio of three-pointers on her way to a game-high 17 points in Tippecanoe Valley’s 50-43 win at Northfield. Anne Secrest narrowly missed a double-double with 15 points and nine rebounds for the Lady Vikings. With the win Valley moves to 5-0 in the Three Rivers Conference and 15-2 overall. Next up is a visit to Southwood at 7:45 p.m. Saturday. Tuesday in Winona Lake Hannah Delp had 11 points, including a trio of three-point field goals, and Rachel Sand added 10 in Lakeland Christian Academy’s 42-40 loss to Granger Christian. Carissa Urschalitz contributed five points for the Lady Cougars. Melissa Goss, Joselyn Helton and Ashley Ormsby had four points each, and Maryl Gerst had a basket for LCA. Now 5-12, the Lady Cougars will travel to Caston to take on the Comets at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
Boys Basketball Tuesday in South Whitley Cole Kessie’s 23 points led Whitko to a 72-68 non-conference home win over Adams Central. Freshman River West added 21 points, and sophomore Nate Walpole scored 13 for the Wildcats. Whitko led 42-27 at halftime, and handled the Flying Jets’ comeback bid as they outscored the Wildcats 41-30 over the final 16 minutes. The Wildcats will take a 2-10 record back into Three Rivers Conference play when they host Northfield at 7:30 p.m. Friday. Tuesday in Winona Lake Connor Bum had 12 points and Josh McDaniel nine in Lakeland Christian Academy’s 51-35 loss to Granger Christian. Carter Twombly had six points for the Cougars, with Jon Harmon adding five, Elijah Raymond two and Evan Bremer hitting a free throw to complete the scoring for LCA. The Cougars will continue to look for their first win of the season when they host Victory Christian at 12:15 p.m. Saturday.
Gymnastics Tuesday in Warsaw Taylor Ross finished first on the vault, floor exercise and the bars, and the all-around to lead Warsaw to a 101.650-66.900 home win over Homestead. She also finished third on the balance beam. Lady Tiger Katelynn Chaffee was the winner in the beam and finished second on the vault and floor exercise. Madison Moore finished second on the beam, and Olivia Cronenwett took third on the vault and floor exercise. Sophia Tsiguiloff finished third on the bars. The Lady Tigers travel to Plymouth to take on the Pilgrims and East Noble at 11 a.m. Saturday.
Tuesday in Syracuse Reagan Atwood took first on the vault, uneven bars, beam and all-around to lead Wawasee to a 96.55-90.60 home win over West Noble. Taylor Busse tied Atwood for first in the bars and took third on the beam for the Lady Warriors. Molly Smith took second on the vault. Jade Skelton was the runner-up in the floor exercise. Wawasee will host Warsaw in Northern Lakes Conference competition at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
