Warsaw’s girls golf team is off to a slower start than usual, but that didn’t stop the Lady Tigers from claiming a 221-228 win over Rochester at Stonehenge Golf Club Wednesday. Madi Graham paced the Lady Tigers with a 50 and Delaney Wihebrink recorded a 55. Page Desenberg and Morgen Fuentes each carded a 58 over the front nine. Only Kinley Lingenfelter, who was the medalist with an even-par 36, scored better for the Lady Zebras than Warsaw’s top four. Warsaw first-year head coach Tad Nieter said he has confidence his team will continue to improve as the season progresses led by the team’s top two, Graham and Desenberg. “With Madi and Page, they seem to take their game up a little bit when the pressure is a little bit more,” said Nieter. “I was really happy with how both of them played. For us, it’s just a matter of getting a three, four and five in. We’ll be right there. “For having such a young team, that’s a good start for us.” Nieter explained the slow start, relative to par, can be traced to playing time under competitive pressure. “The No. 1 thing right now is they haven’t played enough tournament golf,” Nieter said. “They are getting there. Each week. We started open practice in July and it’s amazing the progress they are making. We are getting really close. I’m sure by sectionals we will be ready.” Triton was to have competed, but withdrew yesterday afternoon. Warsaw moves on to Saturday’s East Noble Invitational in Kendallville, with a 10 a.m. tee time.
