Lady Tigers Split Golf Match With NorthWood, Plymouth

Warsaw’s girls golf team has made improvements over the course of the season, said first-year head coach Ray Davis.
The goal now, as the postseason looms, is to get each player to perform well in the same match.
Hosting a triangular match against conference foes NorthWood and Plymouth Thursday evening at Stonehenge, the Lady Tigers finished second after shooting a four-player, 9-hole score of 189 on the front side.
NorthWood won with a 180, while Plymouth shot 202.
“The girls are improving, but we’ve got to get everyone playing well on the same day,” said Davis, whose team is now 10-4 overall and 4-2 in conference play. “Tonight, we had at least five or six penalty strokes ... and we lost by nine. If we don’t have those, it’s a lot closer, and who knows what happens.”
On a beautiful evening to be on the course, Warsaw’s Alexis Manwaring fired a 41 and shared medalist honors with NorthWood’s Summer Stillson.
Other scores for the Lady Tigers included Kristen Watson’s 47, Madi Graham’s 49, Ash Jain’s 52 and Page Desenberg’s 59.
Morgan Fuentes rounded out Warsaw’s lineup with a 58.
“Alexis Manwaring played well,” said Davis. “I was pleased with her round. Madi Graham shot a 49, and her nemesis has been (hole) No. 2. She put one in the water there tonight, and ended up with a bogey. We’re improving, we’ve just got to get everyone to play well on the same night, and we’ve got to play well on our home course.”
To go with Stillson’s 43, NorthWood’s other scores included Linnzie Richner’s 43, Madison Rhiner’s 46, Rachel Beebe’s 50 and Hope Cripe’s 61.
NorthWood is now 6-0 overall on the season and 5-0 in the NLC.
Wawasee, which beat conference foe Goshen by 48 strokes Thursday evening at Maplecrest, is also 5-0 in NLC play.
Randy Dunn led Plymouth with a 47, while Morgan Oberley shot 49, Katie McDonald and Lauren Kolter carded 53s and Katie Johnson finished with a 62.
The Lady Tigers are in action Monday when they host NLC foe Elkhart Memorial, as well as Culver Academy.
