Another match, another shutout for the Warsaw girls soccer team.
The Class 3A No. 10 Lady Tigers posted their fourth shutout in their first six games with a 4-0 win over Northern Lakes Conference foe Goshen on Tuesday at the Tiger Soccer Complex.
“We did a good job moving the ball today,” Warsaw coach Jon Hoover said. “It’s fun to see different people scoring. A lot of people that do a lot of the quiet things were rewarded today with goals.”
Two of those people are Audrey Grimm and Anna Grill, while Delaney Taylor kicked in two goals for Warsaw (5-1, 3-0 NLC).
Taylor and Grill scored during an onslaught of five shots on goal over a nine-minute stretch early in the match.
Taylor gave Warsaw the 1-0 lead 20 minutes into the match on Goshen goalie Madison Rittenhouse’s deflection of a shot on goal.
Grill followed up less than two minutes later, placing the ball just to the right of Rittenhouse’s outstretched arms.
“(Warsaw has) got great team speed,” Goshen coach Dan Graber said. “They’re one of the best teams in our conference, top 10 in the state right now, that’s basically what it comes down to.”
Hoover said it’s not only his players’ speed, but the speed at which they move the ball, that makes them successful.
“If we play the game right, the ball will always move faster than the player,” Hoover said.
Warsaw continued to control ball movement in the second half. Grimm scored in the 55th minute, and Taylor followed up in the 69th minute on a free kick for the 4-0 lead.
Meanwhile, Warsaw’s Kaylee Patton had a lonely night in the net, making a save on the Lady Redhawks’ only shot on goal.
The Lady Tigers kept the ball on Goshen’s side of the field, but didn’t grow stagnant defensively.
“They’ve been around long enough to know that at any point they could get scored on,” Hoover said.
Graber credited Rittenhouse’s performance. She made 14 saves out of Warsaw’s 18 shots on goal.
Goshen won the JV match 3-0.
The Lady Tigers are in action again Thursday when they travel to Homestead.
