Lady Tigers Lead Roundup By Winning Third-Straight Kokomo Relays TitleKOKOMO — The Warsaw girls track and field team is getting used to the championship routine at the Kokomo Relays. For the third-straight year, and seventh of the past eight, the Lady Tigers were crowned champions of the invitational. Warsaw won with 149 points, followed by Noblesville (124), Kokomo (92.5), Northwestern (52) and Marion (43), rounding out the top five. Helping the squad get the victory were seven first-place finishes, including four relays. Among the relay wins were the medley (Mariah Harter, Nicole Eckert, Brooke Rhodes, Sarah Ray), sprint medley (Ann Harvuot, Jackie Ferguson, Megan Kratzsch, Tennie Worrell), 400 (Harter, Samantha Alexander, Brittney Rhodes, Harvuot) and 400 shuttle hurdle (Elise White, Brittney Rhodes, Katie Voelz, Ferguson). Individually, Ferguson won the 100 hurdles (16.95), Harvuot took first in the 100 (13.06) and Ray was the top runner in the 3200 (11:31.85). Warsaw closes out its regular season schedule Tuesday at Northridge, where it will look to finish the Northern Lakes Conference season at 7-0. At Saturday’s John Reed Relays, the Wawasee girls track and field team finished 10th out of 13 teams. Columbia City was the winning squad with 87.5 points, while Wawasee scored 22. The Lady Warriors’ top finish was Jordan Edington’s second in the shot put (38-5). The Wawasee girls will join Warsaw for a three-team Northern Lakes Conference meet at Northridge Tuesday. The Warsaw baseball team earned a split at Saturday’s doubleheader in Valparaiso. Warsaw opened the day with an 8-5 eight-inning victory, but fell 4-0 in the second. In Game 1, Jason Ferguson and Michael Miller each went 2 for 3, with Miller and Josh Frantz posting two RBIs each. In the second game, Shay Hepler had two of Warsaw’s four hits. Warsaw sits at 4-6 going into tonight’s Northern Lakes Conference home game against Elkhart Memorial. The Wawasee baseball team posted to blowout wins Saturday at Bethany Christian. In the doubleheader, Wawasee took Game 1 17-1 in five innings, then played another five-inning game, winning 18-2. In the two games, Drew Anderson was 5 for 7 with two doubles, four stolen bases, three RBIs and five runs, while Derrick Sorensen was 4 for 7 with a home run, three RBIs and the pitching win in Game 1. Whitko opened the day with a 13-3 five-inning win over the host Southern Wells Raiders, then followed it with a 15-4 six-inning victory. On the day, Hunter Sroufe went 6 for 8 with a home run, five RBIs, four stolen bases and four runs, while Alex Stoddard was 5 for 9 with four doubles, four runs and three RBIs. At home against Triton Saturday, the Manchester baseball team lost the first game of a doubleheader 6-5, but won the second 14-4, claiming its first victory of the year. In Game 1, Triton took a 6-3 lead into the seventh, where Manchester plated two, but came up short of a comeback. Following the close first game, the Manchester bats came alive in the second, posting 21 hits, with Justin Lewis getting three doubles. The 1-8 Squires are at Southwood today and Triton is at home against New Prairie today. The Triton boys golf team maintained its stranglehold on Marshall County Saturday, winning the county tournament once again. At Culver Mystic Hills Golf Club’s par-71 course, the Triton Trojans shot a 308, putting plenty of distance between itself and second place Bremen, which shot a 353. Triton senior Quentyn Carpenter was the medalist, shooting a par 71, followed by teammate Ryan Rapp’s 74. The Trojans will be at Tuesday’s Joe Harris Shootout at Rozella Ford Golf Club in Warsaw. The Tippecanoe Valley boys golf team finished eighth at Saturday’s Rochester Invitational at Mill Creek Golf Course. Top-ranked Columbus North won the meet with a 323, followed by Lewis Cass’ 326 and Culver Military Academy’s 327, rounding out the top three, while Valley shot a 363. The Triton girls tennis team finished seventh at Saturday’s DeKalb Invitational, although, according to coach Allen Peckhem, the Lady Trojans were close to a fourth-place finish. In the first round, Triton's Carrie Slabaugh (No. 2 singles), Michal Scherer-Bay (No. 3 singles) and the No. 2 doubles team of Cassie Irons and Shayla May all lost in tiebreakers, which would have turned the team’s fortunes. Triton's No. 1 doubles tandem of Marissa Ross and Holly Stogsdill finished fourth, defeating Fort Wayne Snider, but losing to NorthWood and Bellmont. The Lady Trojans host Bethany Christian today.
