Senior Meredith Hollar tied her own school record again.
Freshman Elizabeth Van Wormer wasn’t bad either.
In a high school girls socer game between the Warsaw Lady Tigers and the visiting Manchester Lady Squires, Hollar and Van Wormer combined to score eight goals, as the hosts cruised to an 11-0 win Thursday night.
Warsaw, which scored a trio of goals in a span of a minute, led 6-0 at halftime and improved to 8-3-2 on the season.
A day after beating Maconaquah 8-1, the Lady Squires didn’t get a shot off against the Lady Tigers and fell to 5-5-3.
“We were able to finish well,” said Warsaw coach Dan Miller, whose team outshot Manchester 23-0. “We talked about gearing up for the sectional, and tonight I thought we put two good halves together.”
Hollar led the winners with five goals – the third time in her injury-shortened career she has done so.
The Grace College-bound Hollar, who missed all of her junior season and part of this year with a knee injury, has scored 15 goals in eight games this season and 57 in her career.
She needs just four goals to tie 2004 graduate Ashley Kitchens’ school record for goals in a career.
“Meredith showed she’s hungry to score some goals,” said Miller. “Maybe she was trying to make up for lost time.”
Seniors Gabby Monroy and Kelly Williams and freshman Lexi Myers scored one goal each for Warsaw.
Monroy scored the first goal of the 80-minute contest, putting a shot past Manchester keeper Kiersten Staley in the fourth minute.
It took the Lady Tigers nine minutes to score again, but when they did it was like the floodgates opened.
Warsaw scored its next three goals in a span of a minute, taking a 4-0 lead in the 14th minute.
Senior Erica Gauger and Monroy had four assists each for the Lady Tigers, while senior Alex Noppert and juniors Sarah Boyle and Sandra Granda assisted one goal each.
“I think it starts in the midfield for us,” said Miller. “When we possess well, that’s when we’re firing on all cylinders.”
They certainly appeared to be against Manchester.
The Lady Tigers are in action again Saturday when they host rival Wawasee at 11:30 a.m.
Manchester travels to Peru Tuesday for a 5 p.m. contest.
