By taking first place in six of 11 events, Warsaw’s Lady Tigers opened their swimming season by winning the Goshen Relays Saturday afternoon. Warsaw outdistanced second-place Goshen 138-112, while Fort Wayne Canterbury was third with 80 points. The meet was held in Warsaw’s pool, as construction at the new Goshen facility is not yet complete. Warsaw was victorious in the 400 freestyle relay, 200 medley relay, 200 breaststroke relay, 200 backstroke relay, 800 freestyle relay and the 200 freestyle relay. Warsaw coach Anthony DeBrota said he was pleased with some aspects of his team’s performance, but there’s still things to work on. “We looked a little sluggish on the non-free strokes and our turns, but the starts were very strong, as was our freestyle,” he said via e-mail. “The girls see this as a big success. I know they are proud of themselves after seeing some success for the work they have been putting in to practice. “Overall, I am very pleased with how we swam, but I am reinterating that we go back to work Monday to get ready for Manchester.” That meet will start at 5 p.m. Tuesday in North Manchester.
