Lady Tiger Soccer Suffers First Loss of 2015 Season

HUNTERTOWN – The Warsaw Lady Tiger soccer team lost its first match of the 2015 season, a 2-0 non-conference defeat at Carroll Tuesday evening. "The girls are having a special season. God has blessed us and we are 13-1. Right now that one really stings,” said Warsaw head coach Peter Lucht via e-mail. “Carroll has a strong team, and we couldn't afford to not do what we needed to do. “But our focus is on coming back to practice tomorrow, hitting it hard, picking our hearts and our heads up, and focusing on doing our best to win our match against Northridge on Thursday." The Lady Raiders will enter the match at 4-0-1 in the Northern Lakes Conference. Warsaw will take the conference title with a win, while Northridge can take first place with a match remaining if they win. Kickoff is set for 7:15 p.m. in Warsaw.
Tuesday in North Manchester Manchester claimed the first-ever Three Rivers Conference girls soccer title after its 10-0 win over Peru. Meghan Davis had a pair of goals, while Brooklyn Howard, Elizabeth Angulim, Katelyn Andritsch, Abbey Nalbauer, Carsyn Howard, Brittany Montel and Ingrid Borkenhagen each scored once. The Lady Squires close out their regular season Saturday morning when they host South Adams.
Tuesday in Elkhart Visiting Wawasee was down two goals at halftime, but kept its match with Elkhart Memorial close before giving up a pair of goals in the final six minutes to fall 4-0. The Lady Warrior junior varsity team got a goal from Haley Smarr at the eight minute mark to claim a 1-0 win over Memorial. Wawasee closes its regular season Thursday at Nappanee in a Northern Lakes Conference match with NorthWood. Cross Country Tuesday in Larwill Whitko was second to Northfield, and Lakeland Christian was third in a boys cross country race held at Whitko Middle School. The Wildcats’ Josh Wright won the race, with Logan Busz taking fourth. Zack Freel was sixth for the Wildcats. LCA’s Joshua Gervasi was fifth in the race, and Alex Plastow took eighth for the Cougars. On the girls side, Whitko couldn’t field a full team, but the Lady Wildcats did take four of the top five spots, led by senior Brigit Nemitz’s 19:49. Tuesday in Winamac Baylee Mcintyre was third in the girls race, and Bailey Watkins finished fifth in the boys race, but both Triton teams fell to Winamac. LaVille also sent runners, but didn’t field full teams in either race. The Trojan teams will run in the first-ever Hoosier North Athletic Conference meet on Saturday. Boys Soccer Tuesday in North Manchester Elisiel Guerrero had a double hat trick, scoring six goals to go with Colin McNeeley’s four in Manchester’s 12-0 rout of visiting Winamac at Good Fields. Nathan Self and Ben Green also scored, while Braydon Sewell and Guerrero had two assists each. Isaiah Davis, Noah Beck, Jake Schannep, Caleb Haecker and Eric Morales recorded assists in the Squires’ ninth shutout of the season. Manchester will play its third match in as many days when it travels to Denver for a match with North Miami this afternoon.
Tuesday in Syracuse Wawasee gave up four second-half goals to visiting Northridge in a 5-0 Northern Lakes Conference loss at Warrior Field. Now 4-10-1 overall and 1-5 in the NLC, Wawasee will host Plymouth in the regular season finale Thursday.
Tuesday in South Whitley Whitko dropped a 2-0 decision to visiting Prairie Heights in the Wildcats’ regular season finale. Goalkeeper Devin Goggin was credited with 10 saves. The Wildcats open sectional play against Woodlan at Fort Wayne Blackhawk Christian at 7 p.m. Oct. 7.
Tuesday in Culver The visiting Lakeland Christian Academy Cougars fell 10-0 to Culver Academies Tuesday. LCA will entertain Trinity Schools on Friday.
Volleyball Tuesday in Speicherville Visiting Manchester came back from a set down to extend the match before falling 14-25, 25-22, 25-21, 21-25, 15-11 at Northfield. The Lady Squires had four players in double digits in digs; Cierra Carter had 24, Ali Casper 22, Kendra Auler 19, Kendra Binkley 10 and Sydney Day 10. Binkley also recorded 15 kills for Manchester. Tuesday in Bunker Hill Visiting Whitko dropped a three-set volleyball match 25-13, 25-21, 25-21 to Maconaquah Monday night. The Lady Wildcats will host Fort Wayne Canterbury Thursday.
