NORTH MANCHESTER – Drew Thompson shouldered the scoring load for Manchester High School’s varsity girls basketball team Monday. Thompson, who made four three-pointers, scored a game-high 18 points, leading the Lady Squires to a 38-35 win over the visiting Cass Lady Kings. Brooklyn Howard added six points in the win, while Cierra Carter and Bailey Sewell scored four points each and Rae Bedke and Celina Carter chipped in with three points each. Savannah Thompson led Cass with 12 points, while Olivia Collins chipped in with 10 points and Bailey Gremelspacher added six points. The teams were tied 12-12 after one quarter of play, and Cass held leads of 20-19 and 27-26 after the second and third quarters, respectively. With the win, Manchester improved to 3-3 on the season, while Cass fell to 1-6. After winning just one game last season, and losing their first two game this season under first-year coach Jacob Everett, the Lady Squires have won three of their last four games. The lone setback in that stretch is a two-point loss at Oak Hill, which is currently 4-1 on the season. Manchester is in action again Thursday when it hosts Caston.
