CHURUBUSCO – Manchester scored four runs in the third inning, then added seven more in the fourth frame to run away from Churubusco 12-3 Wednesday evening. The game was the season opener for the Lady Squires. Brooklyn Howard and Mattie McKee combined in the circle to hold the Lady Eagles in check, striking out 13 Churubusco hitters. Wednesday in Warsaw Sidney Hernandez had a pair of hits and Sarah Shoemaker struck a two-run double in Warsaw’s 12-2 loss to the Carroll Chargers. Baseball Wednesday in South Whitley Norwell scored seven times in a pivotal third inning on the way to a 13-5 win over Whitko Wednesday evening. Wildcat pitchers combined to strike out eight Norwell hitters. Landen Goff and Tanner Hughes each recorded doubles, and Garrett smiley had two hits to lead the Wildcats. Next up for the Wildcats is a game at Peru at 5 p.m. Tuesday. Junior Allison Smith and sophomore Karly Eichenauer started off with wins at 1 and 2 singles, respectively. Senior Claire Barnett needed three sets to win her match and clinch the team win.
