Lady Squires Suffer First TRC LossNORTH MANCHESTER – A dominant fourth quarter by North Miami Saturday night led to the Manchester Lady Squires’ first Three Rivers Conference basketball loss of the season.
Trailing 30-27 after 24 minutes of play, the Lady Warriors outscored the host Lady Squires 20-9 in the final frame en route to a 47-39 win.
Not only did the eight-point victory extend North Miami’s win streak to seven games, improving the team to 13-3 overall, it left four teams with one loss in conference play.
Northfield is 5-1 in the TRC, while Manchester, North Miami and Tippecanoe Valley are all 4-1.
“I did not do a good enough job of getting us prepared for the type of situations that we were in tonight,” said Manchester coach Jacob Everett, whose team fell to 9-7 overall. “We will look to bounce back against Peru on Wednesday.”
North Miami led 8-5 after one quarter of play and 18-17 at halftime, before the Lady Squires won the third quarter 13-9.
Kennedy Fierstos was the only Manchester player in double figures with 13 points. She added four rebounds and two assists to her statline.
Kiera Hatfield tallied nine points, three boards, two blocks and two steals in the loss, while Mackenzie Day and Eva Bazzoni scored four and three points, respectively.
Emma West and Kennidy Lauer scored two points each for Manchester.
North Miami had a trio of players score in double figures, as Bailey Keim and MaryAnn Freeman finished with 12 points each, and Hannah Hall added 11 points.
Manchester won the JV game 44-20, improving to 8-7 overall and 3-2 in the TRC.
Emma Garriott led the JV Lady Squires with 11 points, eight rebounds, three assists and a steal, while Morgan Parrett chipped in with eight points, seven boards and a steal.
The Lady Squires are in action twice this week, playing at TRC rival Peru Wednesday, and at conference foe Wabash Saturday.
