Lady Squires Lead Roundup With Tennis Win over Wawasee

NORTH MANCHESTER – In a match rescheduled because of the weather, the Manchester Lady Squires tennis team hosted and defeated the Wawasee Lady Warriors 4-1 Friday.
Manchester won all three singles matches, as well as the No. 2 doubles match.
Singles winners for Manchester included Karly Eichenauer, Allison Smith and Leiah Brandenburg. The winning No. 2 doubles team consisted of Bethany Collett and Kendra Auler.
For Wawasee, Charity Parker and Madison Cooper topped Reilly Ruppert and Kelsey Eichenauer 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (8-6) at No. 2 doubles.

BASEBALL
Friday
Tippecanoe Valley’s varsity baseball team beat non-conference rival Triton 12-2 in five innings.
Gavin Bussard was the winning pitcher for the Vikings after giving up just three hits in a complete-game victory. Bussard walked six and struck out five.
Bussard also had two hits in the win, as did Luke Helton, Eric Hammer, Jesse Floor and Jay Myers.
Hammer hit a double and a triple, while Floor and Bussard each had a double

Friday in Syracuse
In a 2-0 win over Northern Lakes Conference foe Goshen, the Wawasee Warriors scored once in the first inning and once in the fourth.
Rylan Kuhn had three hits in the win, including a double, while Jacob Garcia had two hits and Jamie Slabaugh hit a double.
Lucas Garza got the win on the mound for the Warriors, who are now 4-10-1 overall and 1-5 in the NLC.
Garza pitched seven innings, giving up two walks and striking out six Goshen batters.
Wawasee’s JV team won 14-2.

Friday in Dunlap
The Warsaw Tigers scored a 5-2 win at Northern Lakes Conference opponent Concord.
Bryce Senisbaugh and Braxton Tennant had two hits each for the Tigers, who are now 7-5 overall and 5-1 in the NLC.
Zach Witt earned the win on the mound and improved his pitching record this season to 3-0.
The JV Tigers fell 6-5.

Friday in Monroe
Whitko won a 9-inning battle 5-4 at Adams Central, improving its overall record to 8-4.
Hunter Sroufe was the winning pitcher after working the final 3-2/3 innings, giving up two hits and a walk, and striking out two.
Landen Goff and Zach Hewitt hit doubles for Whitko. Hewitt was 3 for 4, while Drew Bradford was 2 for 4 and had a pair of RBIs.

Friday in Peru
Manchester’s varsity baseball team got no-hit in a 10-0 loss at Three Rivers Conference rival Peru.
With the loss, the Squires are now 2-8 overall and 1-2 in the TRC standings.

SOFTBALL
Friday in Goshen
Wawasee’s varsity softball team scored four runs in the second inning and never looked back, cruising to a 9-0 win at Northern Lakes Conference rival Goshen.
The Lady Warriors also scored a run in the third inning and four more in the fourth.
Wawasee pounded out 11 hits in the win and had just one error, while Goshen committed seven errors and managed just one hit off Meghan Fretz.
Fretz went the distance in the circle for Wawasee, striking out eight and walking three.
Fretz led Wawasee offensively with three hits, while Amber Lemberg and Graceanne Kerlin had two hits each.
The Lady Warriors are now 12-3 overall and 5-1 in the NLC.
The Wawasee JV team fell 10-3.

Friday in Bourbon
The Triton Lady Trojans built an early edge on Friday, but the Pioneer Panthers roared back to steal a 5-4 victory at Keyser Field.
The Panthers took the lead in the eighth inning on an RBI single by Alexis Robinson.
Courtney Jennings and Nicole Sechrist each racked up two RBIs on one hit for Lady Trojans. Sechrist homered in the first inning.
Katie Bingaman got it done in the circle on the way to a win. She allowed four runs over eight innings. She struck out eight, walked one and surrendered seven hits.
Courtney Jennings was charged with the loss. She lasted all eight innings, walked four, struck out five, and allowed five runs, three earned.
The Panthers jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Pioneer’s rally started when Robinson singled. A double by Bingaman then moved Robinson from first to third.
Triton quickly matched the Panthers' strong inning with a four-run inning of its own in the first. The Lady Trojans scored on a two-run double by Jennings and a two-run homer by Sechrist.
The Panthers tied the game in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Haley Gleitz that scored Alyssa Shaw.
Pioneer went ahead after scoring one run in the eighth on an RBI single by Robinson.
Taytum Hargrave had two hits for Triton.

Friday in Warsaw
The Warsaw Lady Tigers scored five runs in the first inning, but needed eight innings to hold off Northern Lakes Conference foe Concord 12-11.
The Lady Tigers led 7-2 before Concord scored six runs in the top of the fifth, another in the seventh, and two more in the eighth.
Warsaw won the game by scoring three times in the bottom of the eighth inning, improving to 3-10 overall and 3-3 in the NLC.
Lauren Shaffner had three hits and three RBIs in the win, while Sarah Shoemaker, Grace Johnson and Saylor Bradley had two hits each.
Johnson was credited with the win in the circle after pitching two innings, giving up three hits, three runs and a walk, while striking out two.
