Lady Squires Lead Roundup With Tennis Win Over Wawasee

SYRACUSE — The Manchester girls tennis team got a 4-1 victory at Wawasee Thursday night.
Improving to 4-2 on the year, Manchester swept the doubles courts, as the No. 1 team of Hayleigh Collett and Karly Eichenauer were 6-3, 6-0 winners and the No. 2 duo of Micheala Pattison and Morgan McKee won 7-5, 6-1.
At singles, Manchester’s Allison Smith won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2 and Claire Barnett was the victor at No. 3, winning 6-1, 6-1.
For Wawasee, which falls to 1-3 on the year, it’s point came at No. 1 singles, where Katy Ashpole rallied from a 6-4 opening-set loss, to win the next two, 7-5, 6-1.
Manchester will be at Saturday’s Muncie Central Invitational and Wawasee hosts Westview today.

The Warsaw girls tennis team suffered its third loss in three night Thursday at home, falling 3-2 to Fairfield. Mixing up the lineup, Warsaw lost all three singles matches, but the No. 1 doubles team of Sarah Boyle and Jacqueline Sasso won 6-3, 6-2 and the No. 2 tandem of Abbi Baum and Camille Kerlin won in three sets, 6-1, 6-7 (2-7), 6-3. The 1-3 Lady Tigers are at No. 8 Carroll Monday.

Getting a complete game from Luke Helton, the Tippecanoe Valley baseball team recorded a 9-4 win at South Bend Adams Thursday night. Going the distance, Helton gave up six hits and struck out four. Offensively, Gavin Bussard was 4 for 4 with a double, Tommy Alexander was 3 for 4 with four RBIs and Drake Hyden had two doubles. The 5-4 Vikings host a doubleheader against Taylor Saturday, with the first game beginning at 10 a.m.

The Wawasee boys track and field team improved its Northern Lakes Conference record to 3-0 following Thursday night’s 81-51 home win over Plymouth. Clayton Cook posted three individual wins, finishing first in the 110 hurdles (13.90), 100 (10.51), and 300 hurdles (42.21). Also getting multiple wins for the Warriors were J.J. Gilmer in the high jump (5-10) and long jump (19-6.5) and Sam Griner in the 1600 (5:05.30) and 3200 (11:06.61). The Warriors will be at Saturday’s Goshen Relays, then hosts Warsaw and Concord Thursday.
