Lady Squires Improve To 4-0 In Local Roundup

   SYRACUSE — The Manchester girls tennis team kept its hot start going Thursday evening in Syracuse.
   Defeating the hosting Wawasee Lady Warriors 4-1, the Manchester Lady Squires improved to 4-0 on the season.
   “This is a terrific win against a larger school and a team that beat us last year,” Manchester coach Joel Eichenauer said. “We have girls that compete hard every game.”
   In the team win, senior Malyssa Bedke was a 6-4, 7-5 victor at No. 1 singles and junior Laurel Ruppert won 6-0, 6-3 on the No. 3 court.
   At doubles, the No. 1 Manchester tandem of senior Natalee Cain and sophomore Katie Peden won 6-1, 6-2 and the No. 2 team of seniors Amy Collett and Tawni Kincaid came out on top, 6-3, 6-2.
   For Wawasee, its win came from senior Morgan Greer at No. 2 singles.
   The Lady Squires are back in action Saturday for the Muncie Central Tournament, while Wawasee’s next match is Tuesday at home against Northridge.

Traveling to Fairfield for a match Thursday evening, the Warsaw girls tennis team lost 3-2. In the team loss, Jacqueline Sasso won at No. 3 singles and the Lady Tigers’ other win came from Lindsay Sciarra and Olivia Wallin at No. 1 doubles. The 3-2 Lady Tigers will be at Carroll (Fort Wayne) Monday.

Hosting the Rochester Lady Zebras Thursday evening, the Triton girls tennis team lost 3-2. In the loss, Triton junior Marissa Ross did post a 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 victory at No. 1 singles and sophomore Holly Stogsdill won at No. 3 singles. Triton will be at Bremen Monday for a Northern State Conference match.

Thursday in South Bend
The Tippecanoe Valley baseball team rallied to get an 8-7 win at South Bend Adams Thursday night. Falling behind 3-0 in the first inning, Valley scored three in the second then another four in the fifth to take a lead it wouldn’t give up. Nick Kindig was the winning pitcher, coming in relief in the fourth inning. The Vikings host a 10 a.m. doubleheader against Taylor Saturday.

The 14th-ranked Triton boys golf team posted three more wins Thursday at the Plymouth Country Club. Shooting a 153 on the par-36 course, the Trojans defeated Culver Military Academy (159), Plymouth (163) and South Bend Adams (188). Senior Quentyn Carpenter shot a two-under 34 in the win, matching CMA’s Davis Payne for medalist honors. The Trojans travel to Franklin Saturday for the Spring Preview tournament at The Legends Golf Club.

The Tippecanoe Valley boys golf team improved to 4-1 Thursday evening at Pond View Golf Course in Star City. Shooting a 172 on the par-35 front nine, Valley picked up wins against Caston (188) and North Miami (191). Valley freshman Bryce Zimpelman was the medalist, shooting a 40. The Vikings’ freshmen and sophomores will compete in Saturday’s LaVille Invitational, held at Sprig O’Mint Golf Course, while the varsity will be at the Whitko Invitational, held at Noble Hawk Golf Club in Kendallville.

Scoring five runs in the first inning, the Manchester softball team went on to defeat Triton 14-3 in five innings Thursday in Bourbon. Hannah Little posted three hits in the win, while Kayla Flack and Kristiana Grogg each had two. One of Flack’s knocks was a double and Grogg hit a home run. The 2-4 Lady Squires host their own tournament Saturday, while Triton returns to action tonight at Bremen.
