LEO-CEDARVILLE – Manchester High School’s varsity softball team opened the season Saturday, losing 16-0 and 17-0 in a doubleheader at Leo.
Both games were completed in five innings because of the mercy rule.
In the first game, Leo junior Ashley Miller tossed a no-hitter and also hit a three-run homer for the Lady Lions.
Leo scored three runs in both the first and second innings, eight in the third inning and two in the fourth.
Eight batters had at least one hit for the Lady Lions, who outhit the Lady Squires 17-0 in the opener.
In the second game, Leo jumped on Manchester with seven runs in the bottom of the first inning, and then added four in the second and three in both the third and fourth innings.
Leo pounded out 16 hits in the second game, while Manchester managed five hits.
Tori Runkel led the Lady Squires with two hits, and Emma West, Lydia Greer and Tracy Smith had one hit each.
Runkel was charged with the pitching loss in the first game, while Kindra Stetzel took the loss in the circle for Manchester in the second game.
The Lady Squires are in action again when they travel to Central Noble Wednesday.
