NORTH MANCHESTER – Aided by a nine-run third inning, Manchester’s varsity softball team beat Three Rivers Conference rival Whitko 10-5 Wednesday evening.
Both teams pounded out nine hits, but it was Manchester’s big inning and four errors by Whitko that made the difference.
The Lady Squires scored one run in the bottom of the first inning and then nine in the third.
Trailing 10-0, the Lady Wildcats plated two in the fourth and three in the fifth.
Whitko left 14 runners on base in the loss, while Manchester stranded 16 runners.
Cierra and Celina Carter combined for five hits and five RBIs in the win.
Kennedy Krull led Whitko’s offense with three hits and two RBIs.
Brooklyn Howard got the win in the circle, giving up five runs and just one walk in a complete-game effort that included 11 strikeouts.
Tori Silveus was charged with the loss for Whitko after pitching three innings, giving up eight hits and all 10 runs, only six of which were earned. She walked three and struck out one.
