Lady Squires Clutch To Get Win Over Lewis Cass In Roundup

NORTH MANCHESTER — Hitting 7 of 10 free throws in the fourth quarter, the Manchester girls basketball team hung on for a 43-30 home win over Lewis Cass Monday night.
Trailing 31-29 going into the fourth quarter, the Lady Squires nabbed the lead, holding the Lady Kings to one field goal in the final eight minutes.
Senior Kayla Flack led Manchester with 15 points, hitting 4 of 5 free throws in the final quarter.
Also for Flack, she led the team with three assists and six rebounds, while Kalene Freshour had a team-high five steals.
Along with Flack’s point total, senior Bekah Brunn had 11 and Freshour chipped in with six.
The 2-3 Lady Squires begin Three Rivers Conference play Saturday at Northfield.

The Class 1A No. 9 Triton girls basketball team got a convincing 57-28 win at Bethany Christian Monday night. Leading the Trojan charge was sophomore Kylie Mason, who had 17 points, while sophomore Krystal Sellers had 14 and junior Taylor Hatfield finished with 10. The 4-2 Lady Trojans open their Northern State Conference schedule Saturday at home against Knox.

Saturday in Syracuse
The Columbia City wrestling team won Saturday’s Wawasee Super Duals with a 5-0 mark, while Wawasee went 4-1, Tippecanoe Valley was 3-2 and Whitko finished 2-3. For Wawasee, Nick Rozow (170), Brian Clark (195) and Chad Eppley (285) were all individual champs. Tippecanoe Valley finished with two champs, as Devin Childers and Cody Runyon were the top wrestlers at 132 and 145 pounds, while Whitko’s Greg Newman was the meet’s outstanding wrestler at 113 pounds. Valley and Whitko are in Three Rivers conference action tonight, as the Vikings are at Wabash and Whitko travels to North Miami. Wawasee’s next match is Thursday, when the Warriors open their Northern Lakes Conference season at home against Northridge.
