MARION – Grace College’s women's basketball team lost at Indiana Wesleyan University in the NCCAA Midwest Regional by the score of 62-47 Thursday night.
The game meant little to the Lady Lancers (15-18) in terms of the postseason, as they are already assured a place in the NCCAA National Championships on March 15-18 as the host school.
Grace will open up NCCAA Nationals on March 15 at 7:30 p.m. The tournament field and brackets will be unveiled on March 11. To find out more information about the tournament, visit www.gclancers.com/nccaa.
Grace shot under 33 percent in both halves against the Wildcats (19-13). Chloe Pridgen led Grace with 14 points and seven rebounds in 20 minutes, and Haley Richardson scored 13 points.
IWU jumped out to a commanding lead in the first quarter, going ahead 17-9 by quarter's end.
Pridgen scored six points over the first four minutes of the second quarter to cut Grace's deficit to three. IWU still led 28-21 at halftime.
The Lady Lancers shot just 32 percent from the floor in the first half and were a combined 1 of 4 from the foul line.
The Wildcats needed less than two minutes of action in the second half to assert a double-digit cushion.
The game stayed in IWU's favor for the rest of the contest as the Wildcats coasted to the quarterfinal win in the regional tournament.
Pridgen was 6 of 8 for her team-high 14 points, and Lauren Godfrey added seven points.
Pam Miller tallied four points and eight rebounds, Vironnica Drake added five points and four boards, and Brooke Treadway hauled in five rebounds.
