Lady Lancers Cruise To Fifth-Straight Win

WINONA LAKE – Grace College’s women’s basketball picked up its fifth straight win Wednesday, beating Calumet St. Joseph’s 92-39 at the Manahan Orthopaedic Capital Center.
The Lady Lancers blasted the Crimson Wave (1-4) by a 51-18 margin in the second half en route to the 53-point win and a 5-0 season record.
Five players scored in double figures for Grace, while 12 Lady Lancers scored overall. Allison Kauffman’s 20 points, nine rebounds, three assists and two steals led the way for Grace, and Sarah Feasby added 13 points and seven rebounds off the bench.
Grace started slowly to open up the game, but the Lady Lancers grabbed control for good midway through the first half. Grace held a slight 16-15 lead with 12 minutes remaining in the half, but the rest of the period belonged to the hosts.
The Lady Lancers exploded with a 22-3 run over nearly a nine-minute span. Grace’s defense limited Calumet to just six points over the final 12 minutes of the half, earning a 41-21 advantage at halftime.
Feasby played a big role off the bench in the first half, tallying 11 points in 10 minutes. Kauffman also produced nine points before halftime.
In the second half, Grace’s superior play was even more evident. The Lady Lancers’ offense hummed along at a frenetic pace, hitting 61 percent of their shots from the floor and 11 of 12 from the foul line. The Crimson Wave, conversely, made just six of their 32 (19 percent) field goal attempts over the final 20 minutes.
Grace held a staggering 52-20 advantage in rebounding for the game. The Lady Lancers also nabbed 13 steals and passed out 18 assists. Calumet was outscored 41-5 in bench points, 28-12 in points in the paint and 17-5 in second-chance points.
Lindsey Schaefer scored 10 points on 4-of-4 shooting  and grabbed eight rebounds for the Lady Lancers, and Micah Pollard had 10 points. Kelsie Peterson finished with 10 points, three assists and two steals, and Darian Patton chipped in seven points and four assists.
Grace’s Chloe Pridgen led all players with 12 rebounds in 10 minutes, and Jenna Kieper added five points.
The Lady Lancers will put their undefeated record on the line this weekend with a pair of games in Illinois. Grace will take on St. Francis (Ill.) on Friday and Olivet Nazarene on Saturday.
