TIPTON - La Verne R. Burris, 84, of Elwood, died Nov. 24, 2007, in St. Vincent Mercy Hospital, Elwood.

She was born May 17, 1923, in Marion County, to Fred L. and Laura Ellen Clark Cunningham. On Dec. 24, 1942, she married Robert Limen Burris, who died Oct. 1, 2006.

She was a 1941 Tipton High School graduate. She was a past member of BPW, American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and Veterans of Foreign Wars. She loved quilting, crocheting, sewing and collecting porcelain dolls. She worked at Oaks Manufacturing for 36 years, until 1985, and retired from FMC, formerly John Beam Corp., in 1995.

Surviving are two children, Daisy Ruth (and spouse James) Nicholas, Warsaw, and James Allen (and spouse Kathy) Burris, Elwood; three grandchildren, Jaimie Ruth (and spouse Wil) Nicols, Tony (and spouse Mary) Nicholas and Tim Nicholas; three great-grandchildren, Madison Lanae Burris, and Zachary and Abigail Nicholas; and a brother, Dick Cunningham, Florida. She was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Randy Burris; two sisters, Annetta Burris and Irene Bandy; and six brothers, William, Cecil, Warren, RoyDaniel, Chester and Jimmy Cunningham.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, at Porter Funeral Home, Tipton, with the Rev. Janice Burns-Watson officiating. Burial will be in Fairvew Cemetery, Tipton.

Calling is from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
