KYLA Cadets Hear From Several Nonprofit Agencies

Cardinal Services hosted the Kosciusko Youth Leadership Academy (KYLA) session that focused on social services in Kosciusko County.
Lindsey Miller, Fellowship Missions Development Team member, spoke on the facilities and programs they have for the homeless and how they are continuing to expand these services.
Kelly Bradley and Renea Salyer represented Inspire Indiana and shared that their mission is to build community awareness and strengthen healthy mindsets with prevention strategies for lifelong success. Their goal is to create a positive culture in schools so kids can say no more easily.
Becky Kiphart, Sleep in Heavenly Peace chapter president, reported they have partnered with organizations, churches, businesses and individuals to build over 1,300 beds for local children in need.
Kiira Churchill, Combined Community Services (CCS) executive director, stated the many needs in the community and the helpful services CCS provides including a food pantry, self-sufficiency programs and many seasonal events.
Barry Andews, CEO of the United Way of Whitley and Kosciusko County, said that their organization collaborates with many local agencies. They have recently been working on a new strategic plan that focuses on literacy, school-related help, food security and bringing back the Day of Caring. He encouraged the attendees to use their time, talents and treasures to help build a better community.
One of Heartline’s client advocates, Leo Jones, spoke on the many services they provide to support the physical, emotional and spiritual well-being of women and families.
Alyx Bates, KYLA board member and adults services director for Cardinal Services, talked about the many programs and services they provide for people with disabilities, children and families.
After each of the speakers, the students asked many engaging questions and learned about volunteer opportunities.
