Kris Eric GearhartAKRON – Kris Eric Gearhart, 60, of Akron, passed at 9:22 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2020, at his residence.
Kris was born on Aug. 14, 1960, in Bluffton, to Roger and Janet Thompson Gearhart.
He was a 1978 graduate of Corning High School of Corning, Iowa, where he played basketball. He continued playing basketball while he attended Iowa State Junior College in Estherville, Iowa. He had worked for Gen Core of Wabash for 10 years. Kris was a proud fan of the Chicago Cubs. He also enjoyed watching I.U., the Colts and Bears, Notre Dame Football and NASCAR and his favorite driver was Dale Earnhardt.
He is survived by his children: Justin and wife Laura Gearhart, of Coin, Iowa; Kristal and husband Isaiah Mylin, of Zionsville; and Eric Gearhart, of Akron; nine grandchildren; and parents, Roger and Janet Gearhart.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Brent Allen Gearhart (December 1980); grandparents, Frank and Edna Gearhart and Ed and Mary Jane Thompson; and an uncle, Barry Thompson.
Memorial visitation will take place from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday, Dec. 12 at Hartzler Funeral Home, 305 W. Rochester St., Akron. A memorial service will take place at noon Saturday, Dec. 12 at Hartzler Funeral Home, Akron, with Pastor Kathy Nelson officiating. Masks will be required for all in attendance.
The interment will take place in the Akron Cemetery, Akron.
