Did you know that 75 percent of the electricity used to power home electronics is consumed while they are turned off?
Did you realize that just simply increasing the awareness of energy use lowers energy consumption by as much as 10 percent?
October is Energy Awareness Month, and Warsaw Community Public Library and Kosciusko Rural Electric Company have partnered in an effort to save library patrons money.
Beginning this month, electricity usage monitors donated by KREMC will be available for checkout at WCPL. These units will help users reduce energy costs and identify the real energy abusers in their homes or businesses.
By simply plugging in an appliance or piece of equipment into the Kill A Watt units, users will be able to see how energy efficient they are. They will even be able to measure "phantom loads", energy used when the appliance is at rest and not in use. Users will be able to see the consumption by the kilowatt-hour just like their local utility company does empowering them to save possibly hundreds of dollars on electric bills.
WCPL will also host an energy savings workshop by Kosciusko REMC that will give additional energy savings tips. The workshop, Energy Education 101, will be Saturday at 11 a.m.
With rising energy costs, it's more important than ever to learn how to maximize energy efficiency. Join KREMC Energy Advisor Carol Presley for this free educational and fun presentation, and learn how to use a Kill-A-Watt meter to measure the effectiveness of your electrical appliances.
