The 2009 Kosciusko County Spelling Bee winner will be determined during the week of Feb. 2, according to Jeff Neumann, Madison Elementary School principal and coordinator of the Kosciusko County Spelling Bee.
The 2009 county bee, which will involve approximately 25 students, will be conducted on two separate evenings.
The fifth- and sixth-grade spelling bee will be held at the Warsaw Community High School Performing Arts Center, Feb. 3 at 6:30 p.m.On Feb. 5 at 6:30 p.m., seventh- and eighth-grade school winners will compete to determine their champion. The seventh- and eighth-grade bee will held at Kosciusko REMC in the Touchstone Energy® Room, 370 S. CR 250E, Warsaw.
Following the determination of the seventh- and eighth-grade winner Feb. 5, there will be a spell-off between the two grade division champions, resulting in a grand champion for the Kosciusko County event. The county grand champion will advance to the regional spelling bee, slated for March 14 at Anthis Career Center, Fort Wayne.
For the second consecutive year, Kosciusko REMC is participating as a presenting sponsor for the local and regional bees.
"Because of cost increases for bee participation for area schools, we wanted to make sure that the increased costs didn't stop anyone from participating. As part of our cooperative commitment to education and serving our community, we opted to continue to fund this great educational event, both locally, and at the regional level. We're doing this in conjunction with the other Touchstone Energy® electric cooperatives," said Kosciusko REMC Manager of Marketing and Communications Doris Lemert.
The co-ops have covered half of the registration expense for local schools to participate, and in Kosciusko County, KREMC will also provide participation awards and trophies for all participants and champions.
Kosciusko REMC is a Touchstone Energy® electric cooperative serving more than 17,000 customers throughout Kosciusko County and into surrounding counties.
