WASHINGTON, D.C. - Warsaw Area Career Center staff attended the Association for Career and Technical Education National Policy Seminar March 10-12 in Arlington, Va., and met with members of Congress on Capitol Hill to voice support for career and technical education. The Bush Administration's fiscal year 2009 budget proposes zero funding for the Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Improvement Act, which currently receives $1.2 billion. According to a press release from the Indiana ACTE, these funds are critical to ensuring students are prepared for the 21st century workforce. If the president's proposal passes, Perkins programs in Indiana could lose necessary operating funds.

While attending ACTE's three-day briefing on federal policies, WACC Director Bill Kovach consulted with Congressman Mark Souder's education aide, Brett Swearingen, and Christen Krzywonski, staff member for Sen. Evan Bayh, to encourage more support for career, technical skills and workforce programs.
