Kosciusko’s COVID-19 Death Count Reduced By OneThe death count due to COVID-19 dropped from two to one Tuesday for Kosciusko County.

According to information from the Kosciusko County Health Department, as of Tuesday the KCHD was updated by the Indiana State Department of Health regarding how deaths are being reported.

The Health Department had reported a second death on April 23. However, this individual's physician listed COVID-19 as a contributing cause of death, but no positive COVID-19 test was reported for this patient, according to the KCHD. This diagnosis is made under the physician's discretion. This death is now classified as a “probable COVID-19” death and has since been removed from the total number of positive cases, as well as the total number of deaths for Kosciusko County.

The county’s health department also reported it received two new cases on Monday afternoon and three new cases as of noon Tuesday. This gives Kosciusko County a total of 34 positive coronavirus cases and one death. It has at least 19 cases that have recovered.

The number of probable COVID-19 deaths is being reported on the Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH) website at the bottom of the dashboard. This dashboard will report probable COVID-19 deaths as a cumulative rate and will not be broken down by county, according to the KCHD.

On Tuesday, the ISDH announced that 650 additional Hoosiers have been diagnosed with COVID-19 through testing at ISDH, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and private laboratories. That brings to 16,588 the total number of Indiana residents known to have the novel coronavirus following corrections to the previous day’s total.

A total of 901 Hoosiers have been confirmed to have died of COVID-19. Another 91 probable deaths have been reported. Probable deaths are those for which a physician listed COVID-19 as a contributing cause based on X-rays, scans and other clinical symptoms but for which no positive test is on record. Deaths are reported based on when data are received by ISDH and occurred over multiple days.

To date, 87,181 tests have been reported to ISDH, up from 84,476 on Monday.

Marion County had the most new cases, at 158. Other counties with more than 10 new cases were Allen (19), Cass (85), Elkhart (24), Hancock (21), Jasper (11), Johnson (11), Lake (129), Porter (13) and St. Joseph (16). The Lake County totals include results from East Chicago and Gary, which have their own health departments.

The complete list of counties with cases is included in the ISDH COVID-19 dashboard at coronavirus.in.gov. Cases are listed by county of residence. Private lab reporting may be delayed and will be reflected in the map and count when results are received at ISDH. The dashboard will be updated at noon each day.

The dashboard also has been updated to make corrections based on updated information provided to ISDH, according to the daily ISDH news release on the coronavirus pandemic.
