WINONA LAKE – The first organized “Yarn Bombing” in Kosciusko County will take place at The Village at Winona Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. Knitters, crocheters and weavers, this is your opportunity to use up some of that stash you’ve got. Between now and Tuesday, make as many rectangles, squares, or even triangles, of any size and color combination. On Tuesday, meet at The Island Weaver, 807 E. Canal St., Winona Lake (in The Village at Winona on the canal-side) to “bomb” the Village sign posts, handrails, tree trunks and more. Lauri Hoover, owner of The Island Weaver, will provide darning needles and scrap yarn to “sew” the creations throughout The Village. If you’re past the age of walking around in the chilly evening air, you are welcome to stay at the shop and continue making more “ammunition” for the yarn-bombers. Afterward, everyone will gather back at The Island Weaver for chili and cornbread to warm their hands and laugh about the fun they had. Hoover defined yarn bombing as “a type of graffiti or street art that employs colorful displays of knitted or crocheted yarn or fiber rather than paint or chalk.” More information about The Island Weaver can be found at www.theislandweaver.com
