Kosciusko County Solid Waste Management District has begun an ongoing program of electronics collection. Worn-out, obsolete and broken electronics are becoming a larger part of the county's waste stream. To assist county residents in finding proper disposal options, the district provides a collection service. All electronics may be brought to the KC Recycling Depot at 220 S. Union St. in Warsaw between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, or other hours by appointment.
This service offers Kosciusko County residents with a convenient, inexpensive way to properly dispose of unwanted electronics. It also promotes reuse and recycling.
So far in 2002 the district has sent 36 monitors and televisions and four pallets of mixed electronics to Envirocycle, a recycling company. There the units are taken apart and 95 percent of the parts are recycled.
Cost to residents is $10 for computer monitors and televisions.
Some of the items collected include: computer monitors, CPUs, keyboards, scanners, speakers, power tools, camcorders, digital cameras, DVDs, VCRs, fax machines, televisions, irons, answering machines, telephones, ballasts, joysticks/game controls, calculators, cell phones, pagers, paper shredders, toasters, waffle irons, Gameboys, electronic organizers, electric typewriters and word processors.
