The State of Indiana Bicentennial Committee confirmed in October that the Kosciusko County Historical Society Genealogy Library was awarded the Bicentennial Legacy status for “The Schools of Kosciusko County (1835-1975).” The book will contain hundreds of historical photos, memories from students and staff, maps with location of schools of the past, and research on the history through these decades of the schools throughout the 17 townships in the county. This month, the KCHS Bicentennial Legacy Project Committee received word that the Indiana Genealogical Society awarded them a $1,000 grant. The committee had requested funds for the purchase of “Schools of Kosciusko County” to be donated to libraries, museums and school corporations in the county. The purpose in publishing this pictorial history of the schools in Kosciusko County, early years through consolidation, is to preserve historical records for the enjoyment and education of this and future generations, according to a provided press release. This book detailing schools of the county will be available in mid-August for $39.95 plus tax. The book may be pre-ordered during this publishing window, March through August, to have a copy held. The release states, “Would you like to be a donor or supporter? As a member of the community, you can show your support by sponsoring this project in four ways. Your name can be included in the book if donations of $25 or more are received before March 15 on our donor page. Would you like your donation to be in honor or in memory of? We can also add your requests to the book. Finally, do you have a memory of your school experiences that you would like to share? We would love to hear from you before March 10. Donations of $150 or more will earn a complimentary copy of this book.” For more information, call KCHS Genealogy Library at 574-269-1078 or email librarian@kosciuskohistory.com
