The Kosciusko County Republican Party on Tuesday announced the rescheduled date and location of the 2020 Lincoln Day Dinner.
This year’s event is scheduled for Thursday, May 28 at the Owl’s Nest Restaurant and Meeting Center, 7369 E. CR 800N, North Webster. Hospitality hour will be from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., with dinner at 6:30 p.m. Cost is $55 per person.
Previously, it was scheduled for April 16, but postponed due to COVID-19 governmental restrictions.
Keynote speaker will be Todd Rokita, Indiana secretary of state from 2002-2010.
When elected, Rokita was the youngest secretary of state in the United States, according to a news release from the Republican Party. In November 2010, he was elected to the United States Congress, serving Indiana’s 4th Congressional District until Jan. 3, 2019. He was a candidate in last year's U.S. Senate race, which was won by businessman Mike Braun.
The release states comments also are anticipated by District 2 U.S. Rep. Jackie Walorski and, schedule permitting, District 3 Congressman Jim Banks.
Additionally, attendees can greet candidates for Indiana’s June 2 primary election and other elected officials.
There are several restrictions still in place due to COVID-19 and the event will strictly comply with those directives, the release states.
Most notably is limited seating and social distancing. Therefore, attendance will be limited to 126 plus the press. The restaurant seating capacity is 260 and is restricted to 50% customer occupancy. The tables will be limited to six guests and spaced 6 feet apart.
Guests whom RSVP’d for the original April 16 date will automatically be RSVP’d for this date. There is still seating available for approximately 20 more guests, as of Tuesday evening. In fairness, it will be “first come, first serve” with the remaining seats, the release states.
For guests' safety and protection, the event will provide hand sanitizer at several locations throughout the facility. The servers will be wearing masks and gloves.
Anyone may wear a mask to the event, and event organizers are encouraging fist-bumping opposed to handshaking. If anyone does not feel entirely well, they are asked not to attend.
