Kosciusko County Council Member Receives Statewide AwardINDIANAPOLIS — The Association of Indiana Counties (AIC) announced that Kosciusko County Council member Sue Ann Mitchell received the 2022 Outstanding County Council Member Award.
The award recognized her contributions made to county government throughout her years of public service, according to a news release from AIC.
Mitchell is a strong believer in collaboration as she often states, “No one of us is as smart as all of us working together.”
She has had positions in many offices such as township deputy assessor, township clerk, township assessor, county assessor, county auditor, county treasurer and now county council. Mitchell is a dedicated member of the AIC and has rarely, if ever, missed an annual or legislative conference, the release states. During her lifetime of public service, she has served as the president of the Indiana Township Assessor's Association, board member and education director for the Indiana County Assessor's Association and was honored in in 2007 by her peers as Auditor of the Year Award.
The award was presented during the AIC’s 64th Annual Conference in St. Joseph County on Wednesday. The AIC’s annual conference is the largest gathering of county officials in the state, according to the release. Representatives from public agencies, private entities and local elected officials addressed issues such as American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), public health commission, pathways to permitting, cybersecurity, energy evolution, attracting and retaining the county workforce, cost savings programs in time of inflation and more.

The AIC is a nonprofit organization established in 1957 for the betterment of county government. The various functions of the AIC include lobbying the Indiana General Assembly on behalf of counties, serving as liaison among counties, state and federal agencies as well as providing technical assistance and training to county officials and employees.
