Kosciusko County Coronavirus Cases Remain At 22No new confirmed positive coronavirus cases were reported to the Kosciusko County Health Department as of Monday.

The KCHD reported 22 positive cases, one death and at least 10 cases that have recovered.

The number of positive cases last increased when it went from 20 on Wednesday to 22 on Thursday.

A news release from the KCHD stated that on Saturday, key points made by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention included symptoms among reported cases of COVID-19 vary in severity from mild illness to severe or fatal illness. Some reports suggest the potential for clinical deterioration during the second week of illness.

Among hospitalized patients with confirmed COVID-19, some may develop acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), intensive care for respiratory support, pneumonia resulting in death or a secondary infection.

Loss of taste or smell have been occasionally reported, but more information is needed.

Some have hypothesized that certain medications may increase the risk of infection or worsen the severity of COVID-19, but there is currently no data to confirm this link, according to the CDC key points. Experts have speculated that angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors, angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs), or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs, such as ibuprofen) may influence the infection.

Reinfection is still unclear. More data about the possibility of reinfection with SARS-CoV-2 after recovery from COVID-19 is needed. Antibodies, associated with recovery, have been detected in most recovered patients.

Coinfections have been reported. Detection of another respiratory pathogen does not (and should not) rule out COVID-19, the key points state.

The Indiana State Department of Health announced Monday that 505 additional Hoosiers have been diagnosed with COVID-19 through testing at ISDH, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and private laboratories. That brings to 11,686 the total number of Indiana residents known to have the novel coronavirus following corrections to the previous day’s total.

A total of 569 Hoosiers have died to date. Deaths are reported based on when data are received by ISDH and occurred over multiple days.

To date, 64,649 tests have been reported to ISDH, up from 61,142 on Sunday.

Marion County had the most new cases, at 172. Other counties with more than 10 new cases were Allen (25), Cass (16), Clark (15), Elkhart (13), Hamilton (22), Harrison (14), Hendricks (29), Johnson (16), Lake (77) and St. Joseph (13). The Lake County totals include results from East Chicago and Gary, which have their own health departments.

The complete list of counties with cases is included in the ISDH COVID-19 dashboard at coronavirus.in.gov. Cases are listed by county of residence. Private lab reporting may be delayed and will be reflected in the map and count when results are received at ISDH. The dashboard will be updated at noon each day.

The dashboard also has been updated to make corrections based on updated information provided to ISDH.
