For the Bridge 78 project, Kosciusko County Highway Superintendent and Engineer Rob Ladson recommended the Kosciusko County Commissioners accept the bid from Beer & Slabaugh.
Their bid, he said, was the lowest of the bids received at $75,916.10. Other bids included $81,000 from John Camden Construction; $113,440 from R.L. McCoy Inc.; and $80,741.57 from Pioneer Associates.
The commissioners accepted the recommended bid.
The bridge is over Dausman Ditch on CR 1000W, north of Ind. 19.
Ladson said the engineering estimate was $88,013.45.
In other business, the commissioners:
Approved $18,000 for the Kosciusko County Historical Society for power washing and tuck painting of the Old Jail Museum. The $26,279 bid to do the job was from Atlas, Wabash. The Historical Society raised the remaining money themselves for the work.
Signed the grant application for the Kosciusko Area Bus Service.
Reappointed Joe Todd to the Turkey Creek Regional Sewer District.
Approved a list of changes to the Justice Building expansion project as presented by county administrator Ron Robinson.
Approved moving a 10-foot walkway to Eric and Melody Hodson's southwest property and reducing the walkway to 8-1/2 feet wide.
Previously, the Hodsons petitioned to vacate a platted walkway in Beaver Dam Lake, off CR 750W, which is between lots 24 and 25 of the Grace E. Smith first addition on the southeast side of Beaver Dam Lake.
The petition was continued to allow the Hodsons and remonstrators to reach an agreement. Remonstrators said they didn't want to lose their access to the lake.
Approved Cornelius Newsome's petition to rezone his 7.48 acres from an agricultural district to a commercial district. The property is on the west side of Ind. 15 and 1,120 feet north of Levi Lee Road in Plain Township.
Approved Robert and Brenda Smits' petition to rezone ground from an agricultural district to an Ag II district. The property is on the west side of CR 850E and 1,100 feet north of Epworth Forest Road in Tippecanoe Township.
Kosciusko County commissioners are president Brad Jackson, vice president Avis Gunter and Ron Truex. They meet at 9 a.m. in the county courthouse every other Tuesday.
