NORTH WEBSTER — The Kosciusko Community YMCA invites individuals living with Parkinson's disease, along with their families, friends and caregivers, to a Rock Steady Boxing open house on Wednesday, Oct. 28 from 3 to 5 p.m. at the North Webster YMCA, 301 N. Main St., North Webster.
The event provides an opportunity for community members to learn about Rock Steady Boxing, a specialized exercise program designed to help individuals living with Parkinson's disease stay active, build confidence and maintain their physical abilities, according to a provided news release.
Rock Steady Boxing incorporates non-contact boxing-inspired exercises with movements that challenge strength, balance, coordination, agility, mobility and overall fitness. Participants work at their own ability level, with modifications available to accommodate varying stages of Parkinson's disease.
No previous boxing or exercise experience is necessary.
During the open house, visitors will have an opportunity to meet Rock Steady coaches, explore the equipment used during classes, learn about the program's benefits and ask questions in a welcoming, supportive environment. Family members and caregivers are encouraged to attend.
"Rock Steady Boxing has become so much more than an exercise program for our participants," said Tracy Frick, chronic disease coordinator for the Kosciusko Community YMCA. "Our boxers encourage one another, celebrate each other's accomplishments and develop meaningful friendships with others who understand the challenges of living with Parkinson's. We want people to know that regardless of their experience or current abilities, there is a place for them in our program."

Classes are currently offered at North Webster on Tuesdays at 11:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., and Thursdays at 11:30 a.m.
In addition to the physical benefits, Rock Steady Boxing provides an opportunity for social connection, encouragement and camaraderie among individuals navigating similar experiences with Parkinson's disease.
