Komets Will Have New Starting Times

Posted

The Fort Wayne Komets will open the regular season with a double-header weekend and new starting times.

The Komets will host the Chicago Wolves at Memorial Coliseum Friday, Oct. 4 and the Quebec Rafales on Saturday, Oct. 5.

Instead of the traditional 8 p.m start times, Friday and Saturday games will begin at 7:30 p.m.

Sunday games will start at 6 p.m and weekday games (except holidays) will begin at 7 p.m.

In a shift that reflects growing transportation costs, the league has adjusted schedules significantly for the upcoming season.

As a result, Fort Wayne will face division rivals Cleveland, Indianapolis and Michigan 31 times; Meanwhile, the team won't play any regular season games in Manitoba, Houston, Las Vegas or Phoenix, and two other teams - Kansas City and Long Beach - will not visit Fort Wayne.

The Komets will host pre-season games on Sept. 20 against Indianapolis and Sept. 28 against Michigan.

The IHL will include one expansion team - the Grand Rapids Griffins - and include several new cities.

The former Los Angeles Ice Dogs moved to Long Beach; The Minnesota Moose moved to Manitoba; The Peoria franchise moved to San Antonia and renamed itself the Dragons; The Atlanta franchise to Quebec.

Arrival of the two Canadian teams is the first time in 33 years the IHL has included a franchise north of the border.
