Warsaw attorney David Kolbe has withdrawn from running for the 3rd district congressional seat currently held by Marlin Stutzman.
The Times-Union previously reported in its Jan. 28 edition that Kolbe filed Jan. 26 to seek the seat. Filing for congressional candidates ends today.
On Tuesday, Democrats Stephen G. Hope and Justin Kuhnle filed, and on Jan. 23 John Forrest Roberson and Tommy A. Schrader filed.
In an emailed press statement to the Times-Union this morning, Kolbe said, “In the days since I filed my petition to seek the Democratic nomination for Indiana's 3rd District Congressional seat, I have reassessed my capacity to engage in the immense work necessary in such a campaign.
“Personal and family challenges have arisen which have led to this re-assessment. As a result I have regrettably informed party leaders of my decision to withdraw from the race and have filed the CAN 10 primary candidacy withdrawal with the Indiana Secretary of State, Election Division.”
Kolbe said he will remain a private attorney in Warsaw, assisting clients, including injured workers, and he will contribute, from outside of the political structure, as his time and skills permit in advancing just public policy.
The 3rd district represents Adams, Allen, DeKalb, Huntington, Jay, LaGrange, Noble, Steuben, Wells, Whitley, Blackford and Kosciusko counties.
