Kolbe Seeking Re-Election

Posted

Kosciusko County prosecutor David Kolbe has decided to run for re-election in May.

"Having weighed these matters carefully, and being persuaded that I am the best candidate for the position, I am pleased to announce my intention to seek re-election as the full-time Prosecuting Attorney for Kosciusko County," Kolbe said in a press release.

Kolbe will hold a forum for his campaign at 7 p.m. Jan. 26 at the Blue Lion Coffeehouse in downtown Pierceton. The public is invited.

Kolbe said it was a difficult decision to decide between going back to his private practice and seeking re-election. However, he said, "I deeply care about the criminal justice system and the way that we address crime."

Kolbe believes that his election four years ago "symbolized a strong desire on the part of citizens to put in the prosecutor's office an independent, aggressive, compassionate, and highly skilled trial lawyer with a vision for change."

Kolbe, who is currently prosecuting Kristina Crooks in Kosciusko Circuit Court, said he has tried to change the old system of a "passive prosecutor and deputies who rarely tried cases, confronted issues, or experimented with change." He thinks that the 1998 election will focus on whether voters want to continue with his changes.
