‘Knowledge Event Days’ Coming To Mentone

Posted
MENTONE – Ceres Solution Cooperative will host Knowledge Event Days in Mentone on Aug. 29.

According to Laurel Mann, brand manager for Ceres Solutions, this is the fifth year the organization has hosted the event with two locations. This is the second year in a row one of the locations has been in Mentone, with future plans to make the events in Mentone. This year the other location was in Perryville Thursday.

Knowledge Event Days is a trade show, speakers forum and informational day, Mann said.

The doors will open at 8 a.m. and, depending on heat, the event will go to 3:30 or 4 p.m. Lunch will be provided.

Starting at 8:45 a.m., there will be a welcome from Ceres Solutions Cooperative CEO Jeff Troike. Beth Ford, CEO and president of Land O’Lakes, will speak after that.

After Troike and Ford speak, there will be other sessions available throughout the day, according to Mann. Topics will include “Marketing:  Expert Commentary Delivered Daily, Weeds or Traits: Who is Winning?,” “Using Data to Prove Sustainability,” “Data and Demo Insights on Corn Management/Answer Plot Insights Tours,” “El Nino and Its Impacts,” “Local Nutrition and Crop Protection Trials” and “I Love GMOs and You Should, Too!”

There are benefits to farmers attending the event.

Norm Gable, member of the board of directors and a farmer from North Manchester, stated in today’s age technology drives everything.

The Knowledge Events Day gives farmers an opportunity to speak with the seed people, the chemical people, etc. and get information about their product, he said. He stated there also are vendors with new equipment that farmers can look at.

“This is an opportunity for farmers to ask questions,” he said.

Gable hopes farmers will be able to go to some of the seminars that are available and get at least one thing that will make them more efficient.

“My  dad used to always say if you go to a meeting and come out with one idea, it was worth your time,” he said.

Gable is excited about Ford speaking. He said when most people hear Land O’Lakes, they think about butter, but Land O’Lakes is also a regional cooperative.

Land O’Lakes is a member-owned agricultural cooperative, focusing on the dairy industry.

Gable said Ford is a very intelligent woman with a company on the forefront of agriculture.

The event is free for farmers and anyone can attend,  Mann said.

“Anyone can sign up, but because of the distance, we primarly draw farmers from Indiana and Michigan,” she said.
