Knight To Remember

Editor, Times-Union:

Four months and hundreds of hours later, we stand in our shadows as we prepare to set up the night before our banquet. Paying attention to details, our janitors shine the gym floor as though to see our own reflection upon it, setting up of our tables the picture becomes more real within our imagination, our dedicated music teacher working on our stage prepares the lighting for our evening shows. The darkness of the gym was a mirror reflection of the dark night sky that was upon us.

As the music sang to us over the speakers we envisioned the hustle and bustle of our guests as they just hours away would be filling into our decorated gym filled with balloons of orange, black and gold. The laughter and giggles of children as they share in the evening's entertainment, the serious message of our night's purpose our goals, dreams and desires that we have for our school, staff and student body. Yet did we know what was to come.

As the morning alarm sounded we were met with ringing phones that would carry the devastating news that due to the weather school would be closed!

This would bring great sadness to the committee members that had worked so hard in preparing a lovely evening for our invited guests, the children that had just went through a dress rehearsal the day before had to be told that the evening would no longer happen. Parents expressed the disappointment that their children were experiencing. We could sympathize with their sadness.

The encouragement we received that day and the days to follow from our communities both Claypool, Silver Lake and to the surrounding areas brought great comfort in knowing "A Knight to Remember" would surely be just that.

Thanks to our communities, teachers and families of our children for your encouragement and support we look forward to seeing everyone ... same time, same place on Thursday, April 14, 2011. We hope that this new date will accommodate for those invited guests that had scheduled conflicts with our previous date. New RSVPs can be made to the number below or to our chair of the evening, Mr. Paul Berkey.
